Well friends, welcome to 2013!!! Wohoo! I decided to start off the new year by writing a post for the first time in months!!!! It is actually a resolution of mine to update my blog more often this year. I feel really bad because I told so many people they can keep track of my blog after we moved and then I didn't update it once!
Well a lot has happened since my last post in June, first and most importantly...we moved to St. Louis! We love it here. I never thought I could like the big city so much! I love being near to so many different things, and there are so many resources right at your fingertips! It is really great being near so much family. We get together a lot and it is so nice to be able to all be there for each other to help out (and be helped). Our ward in St. Louis is really great! The people here are all very accepting and loving. Our second Sunday in our new ward brought some new callings, I am the Ward Chorister, and Joe and I are both Sunbeam teachers. I really enjoy leading the music each week. At first I was really scared because I have always been the organist or the pianist, but the conducting class I took has really paid off. After a few weeks I found my niche and I really enjoy my calling a lot. The hardest part is that Joe has to take care of Hudson by himself for the first part of Sacrament meeting, but Hudson is so good in Sacrament meeting that it's not to big of a deal. This last Sunday we said goodbye to our Sunbeams, boy am I gonna miss those little kids. I never realized how fun a group of 4 year-old's can be! They are always super sassy, and very quick thinkers. You can tell that they love Jesus and they want to do what's right. They also can be a little challenging at times, but I am learning a lot about patience!
We are still living with Joe's parents, and I couldn't ask for better in-laws. They are so great, and so helpful with Hudson. They often will play with him or take him on walks while I am trying to get homework done. It is such a blessing. We get along very well, and we haven't had any conflict. I was really worried about living with somebody else but it has actually been a lot of fun. Joe's parents are very centered in the Gospel which is a great example to me and it allows the Spirit to be in our home instead of contention. I have learned so much by living here and I know I have become a better person.
Hudson turned one year old in September and I just couldn't believe that my little man was one year old, and I still can't believe that he is now 15 months old! He started walking in October just before Halloween, and now he has decided to start climbing! I started working on teaching him sign language and even though he knows quite a few words, the only one he will say is "nana" (meaning banana). He says "nana" whenever he is hungry, or when I sign something to him, even if I didn't sign 'banana' to him. "Nana" is the only word that he says consistently as well. He can say "mama", "dada", "thank you" "stop" and "see ya" (which is how he says goodbye.) He also will say "wow" sometimes and gasps in surprise whenever he opens something. It is super cute.
At the beginning of October I got a job decorating cakes for Dairy Queen. Talk about best job ever! Seriously, it was awesome. Hudson didn't do very well with me working and pretty much screamed the entire time I was gone so I eventually ended up quitting my job and the beginning of December right before I left to go to Idaho for my sister's wedding!
The wedding was so beautiful and it was great getting to go home so soon and see my family. I thought it would be a long time before I could see them, so I was really happy to get to go home. Hudson and I spent two weeks in Idaho and we missed Daddy the entire time! We stayed in Rexburg for a few days to catch up with some friends, and then we headed to Gooding. It was fun getting to spend so much time with my mom and the rest of my family. They all loved Hudson. It took awhile for him to warm up to them, but eventually he started having fun and enjoyed himself a lot. He especially loved Keith. Keith would play with Hudson a lot and Hudson just gobbled it up! Allison and Jordan were so happy on their wedding day and I am really excited to have a new brother-in-law! Jordan is a great guy and I know he and Allison will be very happy.
Joe started school in October and is doing so well. His teachers love him and he loves what he is studying. I am so proud of him. He is working so hard for our family right now. Right after we moved to St. Louis he got a job working at Sonic until he started school. In November he was promoted to being the main opener which came with a nice raise and lots more hours. (Tender Mercy!) Currently he goes to school two days a week and goes to work the other four. He leaves the house at 5:40 each morning and walks to work to be there by six. We live about two blocks away from the Sonic, so he walks so that I can have the car in the daytime. He also just finished up his last class online at BYU-Idaho so he and I will graduate in April.
I cannot believe that I am about to start my last semester of college. The classes I am the most excited about are a class on parenting and a class on marriage. It just seems so surreal that four months from now I will be a college graduate! Wahoo! One day I would like to get a Master's degree, but I don't think that will happen for quite some time. I spent a lot of time praying to know if I should do my Master's right away, but in the end I realized that my first commitment is to my family and being a mom. I know Heavenly Father is pleased with my decision and that being a mom is the best thing I can do for my family and for myself.
Well that is the last six months or so in a nutshell. I can't wait to see what 2013 will bring! Happy New year everyone!
p.s. I was going to upload pictures, but they are all on our tablet so it will take me a long time before I can get them all transferred....but they are coming soon! I promise!
